What causes burst pipes?
In South Bay San Diego, freezing isn't the leading cause. Corrosion, water pressure, and age usually are.
Common causes
Aging galvanized steel, pinhole leaks in copper from chemistry issues, high static pressure (above ~80 PSI), and physical damage during construction are the usual suspects.
Prevention
A pressure-reducing valve and periodic inspections of older supply lines reduce the risk.
